Health & Safety Updates

The safety of you and your family, other customers and our staff is paramount to DGSS.

We are committed to ensuring that we can provide a safe environment at all of our facilities prior to re-opening. We will be strictly following all New Zealand Government set guidelines and taking all necessary precautions in order to ensure our commitment to you is met.

Please note due to the fluid and changing situation we will constantly re-evaluating and updating measures from guidance for the New Zealand Government as well as our governing bodies, NZSCTA and Swimming New Zealand.

Actions that we have put into place at DGSS:

 Hygiene Practises 
  • We have increased the frequency of our daily cleaning and disinfection schedule of all common surfaces that are touched i.e. door handles, taps, work surfaces etc multiple times per day.

  • We will be asking all customers and staff to sanitise their hands upon entry to the facility, stations will be set up for you do this.

  • All staff will be re-inducted upon returning to work around Health & Safety procedures as well as given guidance around personal hygiene as recommended by Ministry of Health.

  • We will be temporarily limiting the equipment used in lessons to noodles and kickboards only and these will sanitised and cleaned between classes. The chlorine in our pool water also acts as a disinfectant.

  • Chlorine levels are being maintained and testing is carried out every 2-3 hours. We ensure that our water quality is compliant with the New Zealand Pool Water Quality Standards 5826: 2010. We also undergo regular independent checks which is carried out at all of our facilities. 

Updated our policy around screening sickness for staff and customers

  • We will continue to advise customers and staff that if they are sick that they are to stay home, this will be included in our customer emails and also signage displayed at sites.

  • We will be extra vigilant on screening anyone coming into the facility. Anyone who appears to be visibly sick on site we will be asked to leave the facility. If this applies to someone who is in a lesson they will be removed from the pool and will be issued with a make-up lesson to use once they are fully covered. A Health & Safety Report will be completed if someone appears to be sick and is asked to leave.

Lowered class ratio's & management

  •  To effectively manage lessons, we will be temporarily limiting our class ratio’s to a maximum of 4 students per class for school-age classes, 4 students per lane for squads and adults and lowered our ratio for preschool students to between 2-4 depending on the facility.

  • Our staff will also be undergoing training prior to lessons commencing on how to manage safe distancing in lessons.

  • We will also be temporarily reducing all of our lesson times by 5minutes until the end of May to help with Health & Safety about reducing numbers on poolside and time for cleaning and disinfection. 

Physical distancing measures

  • We have asked customers to observe physical distancing at the facility by ensuring you are seated at least 1 meter from other customers.

  • Sites with chairs available will be spaced out accordingly, please leave them where they are. Sites that have bench seating will show an X to mark appropriate distancing.

  • We also ask that customers observe physical distancing in changing rooms by ensuring you are at least 1 meter from other customers this will be marked out for you.  If there is no space marks available please leave the changing room and wait until some exits the changing room. We ask that you consider showering and changing at home, if this isn’t possible please limit your time in the changing rooms to 5 minutes.

Reducing gathering’s of people

  • We are confident that our facilities will have no more than 100 people attending the facility at one time.

  • We will be recommending that only one adult/caregiver per family group attends swimming lessons with their child/ren.

Contact tracing

  • We ask that families update their contact details If there has been any changes . Please ensure we have the all the contact details for people who are attending lessons with your family.

  • All people who are not attending lessons that come to the facility will need to sign in upon entry, this includes parents, caregivers and siblings

Signage

  • We have increased our signage at our facilities. This includes notices about staying home if you are sick, appropriate hygiene practises, physical distancing, changing room time limits,  etc.

Limiting over the counter payments

  • We will be asking for swim school fees to be paid preferably on Automatic Payment or Internet Banking. Other payments can be done using EFTPOS or credit card, we ask customers to avoid using cash when possible.
